List of Hot 100 number-one singles of 2011 (U.S.)
The Billboard Hot 100 is a chart that ranks the best-performing singles of the United States. Published by Billboard magazine, the data are compiled by Nielsen SoundScan based collectively on each single's weekly physical and digital sales, and airplay. In 2011, 13 singles topped the chart. Although 14 singles claimed the top spot in 52 issues of the magazine, singer Katy Perry' "Firework" began its peak position in late 2010, and is thus excluded.[3]
In 2011, nine acts achieved their first US number-one hit single, either as a lead artist or featured guest: Wiz Khalifa, Adele, Pitbull, Afrojack, Nayer, LMFAO, Lauren Bennett, GoonRock and Calvin Harris. Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" topped the chart for seven consecutive weeks and is the best-performing single of the calendar year, topped Billboard's year-end Hot 100 chart.[4] Pop singers Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Adele and Rihanna each scored two number-one singles during the year.[a] During the year, six collaboration singles topped the chart.
Rihanna's "We Found Love" is the longest-running single of 2011, beginning its run atop the chart for eight consecutive weeks in early November until the end of the calendar year.[2] With that, the song became Rihanna's longest-running number-one single, beating her previous records held by "Umbrella and "Love the Way You Lie" in 2007 and 2010, respectively.[2] Other singles with extended chart runs include Adele's "Rolling In the Deep", which stayed at number one for seven consecutive weeks, Lady Gaga's "Born This Way", which was the 1,000th no.1 single of the Hot 100 era and LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" which both stayed at number one for six consecutive weeks. Perry's "E.T." and Adele's "Someone Like You" each topped the chart for five weeks.[2]
